No. Placement entirely on private property — your driveway, yard, or a parking pad — is unregulated everywhere in our service area. No permit is required for private property placement.

Any time the container sits in the public right-of-way — a street or sidewalk — inside Franklin’s city limits, the City of Franklin Streets Department requires a Commercial Dumpster Permit: a $100 fee plus a $1,000 surety bond, good for up to 30 days before it needs renewal or Street Director approval.

The City can issue a Notice of Non-Compliance, which gives you 5 business days to correct the issue — renew the permit or move the container — before it’s removed at the owner’s expense and the permit is voided.

Yes, genuinely. Inside Franklin’s own city limits, it’s the Streets Department process above. Every other incorporated town on our route — Brentwood, Spring Hill, Nolensville, Fairview, Thompson’s Station, Murfreesboro, Columbia — runs its own separate public works or building department and handles permits independently of Franklin. Unincorporated Williamson County, around College Grove or Arrington, has no documented dumpster-specific permit process on record; we’d point you to the County Highway Department to confirm. Paint, fuel, motor oil, and other chemicals; lead-acid batteries; tires; medical waste; and appliances still holding refrigerant generally can’t go in a standard roll-off. Tennessee law (TCA §68-211-866) specifically bars whole tires, lead-acid batteries, and used oil from landfills, so those need a separate drop-off point. Yard waste has its own separate exclusion list even when it’s otherwise allowed — no treated or painted wood, no plastic planters or pots, no fertilizers or lawn chemicals, and no bagged household trash mixed in with the clippings and branches.
